Earlier this week, Lil Baby’s album, My Turn, (Quality Control Music / Wolfpack Global / Motown Records / Capitol Music Group) topped the charts at number one on Billboard’s Top 200. WATCH THE VIDEO HERE – With 14 records simultaneously on The Billboard Hot 100, Lil Baby is now the most-represented artist on the chart. By dominating the Billboard songs ranking like few artists have before him, Lil Baby now ties with Prince and Paul McCartney for Billboard Hot 100 hits in his young 3-year career.
Rolling Stone said “Fresh production ideas inject life into the album, like on “Grace,” which evokes the sensation of ultra-slow motion.” The video for “Grace” also features Detroit native 42 Dugg, who is signed to Lil Baby’s own label 4PF in collaboration with Yo Gotti’s CMG label.
Lil Baby celebrated his Friday, February 28, album release by pulling up into Atlanta’s West End Mall for asurprise pop-up, and the people’s champion gave out CDs, signed autographs and took pictures with fans. “Shout out to Atlanta. I appreciate everyone that’s been with me the whole time,” Baby told his fans. “Atlanta, I appreciate y’all for rockin’ with me.”
Later the same week, Lil Baby – with the support of Amazon Music, Quality Control, Wolfpack Global and Motown Records – announced the “My Turn” Scholarship fund today. The scholarship will be awarded to a select group of students to Lil Baby’s former high school Booker T. Washington – established in 1924 as the first public high school for African Americans in the state of Georgia and the Atlanta Public School system – who have displayed excellence in leadership and in the classroom. The scholarship will be given out annually starting in 2020.
Lil Baby has been one of the most dominant names in rap since he started, and in the past year Baby has reached over 12 billion global streams, had five consecutive #1 songs at Urban radio (“Yes Indeed”, “Drip Too Hard” with Gunna, “Close Friends”, “Baby” with DaBaby, and “Woah”), won his first ever award at the BET Awards for Best New Artist, earned a Grammy nomination with “Drip Too Hard” for Best Rap/Sung Performance and had three Top 100 albums in 2019 alone. His single “Woah” off My Turn is RIAA certified platinum and went #1 at urban radio – making it his 5th #1 in row, and “Sum 2 Prove” is RIAA certified gold.
My Turn marks Baby’s first new project since 2018’s Street Gossip and, as Lil Baby said in a The New York Times feature, “Due to the fact that I haven’t dropped in a year — and the year that I didn’t drop was the year that I blew up — this is a whole different me. This a whoooole different everything.” With such a rapid rise and a relentless stream of hits, it’s clear that Lil Baby is one of the greatest modern success stories in hip-hop.
